Don't Judge a Book by It's Cover

The forest covers 95.3 square kilometers (36.8 square miles) and is likely mainly comprised of spruce or hemlock.  The trees were able to survive becoming encased in ice thanks to a layer of gravel about 1.2 - 1.5 meters (4-5 feet) thick which protected them as a glacier moved over it.

The team plans to return to the site and collect more samples, in order to learn more about ancient forests on Earth.

Pink Water Indeed!

Most lakes we see are either blue, green, or perhaps brown in color.  Have you ever heard of a pink lake? Well there is truly a unique weird place found in Australia where a bubble gum colored lake does exist!

Before you watch this video write down your hypothesis to why you think this lake is pink.

Congratulations to the Noble Prize Winners...Kudos!

For Chemistry, the Noble Prize has been awarded to Michael Levitt (b. 1947 - South Africa), Martin Karplus (b. 1930 -Austria), and Arieh Warshel (b. 1940 - Israel). They were selected "for the development of multiscale models for complex chemical systems."

Their work was pivotal in creating computer programs capable of modeling molecular interactions.

When she shared the 1903 Prize in physics with her husband, he made sure to emphasize that a considerable amount of the work was completed solely by his wife.  After his death, she was awarded a second, unshared Prize in 1911.
Marie's daughter, Irene, would continue the family tradition of excellence in science by receiving a Nobel Prize for Chemistry in 1935.

Giant Pandas ...Oh My!

In  China, there were 14 giant pandas were born.
